What is MBSR?
Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) is a program developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn in 1979 to help people who were struggling with difficulties in life. Drawn from the Buddhist tradition of meditation but offered with a secular approach that is available to everyone, the evidence-based program uses simple and applicable mindfulness tools to help you focus your attention on the present moment, and as a result positively change your approach to yourself, relationships, work, and life in general.
MBSR helps you see that by simply becoming more aware of your moment-to-moment experiences, you can begin to understand your automatic mental and physical patterns of reaction to the events or circumstances in your life, thereby discovering which negative thoughts and behaviors you can change to relieve some of your stress and suffering. Studies have shown that MBSR can help reduce or relieve pain, and improve overall physical, psychological and emotional well-being.
The MBSR course offers theoretical background as well as a series of meditation practices, discussions and easy-to-use tools to help participants understand their suffering not just on a rational level, but through experience.
